Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, C. V. Ananda Bose in response to an invitation from the International Committee led by H.E. Ban Ki-moon, the former United Nations Secretary-General, had initially agreed to participate in the World Culture Festival (WCF) scheduled from September 29 to October 1, 2023, in Washington D.C., USA. His participation was intended to represent Kolkata, renowned as the Culture Capital of India, at this esteemed international event. The organizers had offered to cover the expenses for the Governor and his delegation.
However, the Hon’ble Governor reconsidered his decision, taking into account the impropriety of accepting foreign hospitality and the associated expenses that would be incurred from the public exchequer. Given the current financial challenges faced by the state, including the concerning issue of dengue-related fatalities, it was deemed inappropriate to burden the public with additional expenditures.
Furthermore, constructive discussions regarding collaboration with American Universities, that will benefit university students of Bengal was also on the agenda to be discussed on the side lines of the WCF. The Hon’ble Governor as Chancellor has decided to adhere to cost-saving measures, and these discussions will now be conducted online. In cases where direct contact with American universities is necessary, Indian Embassy officials in the USA will be requested to liaise with their American counterparts, ensuring a fiscally responsible approach.
